Working Principle

The error amplifier senses the output voltage and sets the oscillator\'s frequency. A high frequency keeps the output capacitors charged and a low frequency turns the output transistors off, limiting the amount of current drawn from the input.

The TC1185 is designed to provide a precise output voltage with minimal current consumption and low noise. The quiescent current can be regulated down to a few microamps, and the output noise is lower than 50µV P-P. The low dropout voltage ensures that there is enough voltage across the output transistors for the regulator to remain stable and precise.
