TC1301B-FDAVMF is a series of integrated linear regulators, producing output of VDD from an input voltage higher than VDD. The product is available in an 8-pin SOIC package.

Application Field

The TC1301B-FDAVMF series are high-efficiency linear voltage regulators with excellent power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) and low noise performance. The devices are ideal for powering low voltage loads such as microprocessors, FPGAs, and ASICs, and are also able to cope with load transients.

The full power capability extends up to 450mA and up to 3A with additional external transistors. The output voltage may be set to any voltage between 0.8V to 5V. The products are fully protected against current overload, reverse polarity, and over-temperature operation.

Working Principle

The IC works through a linear mode, in which the output voltage is regulated by dissipating part of the input current as heat. This is done by connecting a regulator transistor between the input and the output and controlling its conduction via a feedback loop.

The output voltage is determined by the reference voltage VREF, which is connected externally. When the output voltage falls below the required value, the feedback loop increases the current through the regulating transistor, thus maintaining the output voltage within tolerance. If the output voltage rises, the current through the regulating transistor falls, which lowers the output voltage accordingly.

The TC1301B-FDAVMF also provides internal protection features such as thermal shutdown, current-limit, reverse-battery protection, and adjustable over-temperature shutdown. These features protect the output voltage from falling below the minimum protection level in the event of an input voltage over-load or a load transient.
