TC74LCX245FTELM devices, a family of low-power, high-performance, bi-directional transceivers and buffer, have a number of different applications fields and a distinct working principle. Such devices are typically used in a wide range of consumer electronics, computers and communication fields and are exact to driving, receiving, or transceiving digital signals that require multiple logic levels or logic high and logic low operations.
The TC74LCX245FTELM has eight bidirectional non-inverting pins that operate as either inputs 0-7 (DIR high) or outputs 0-7 (DIR low). The output pins go to their normal high impedance state when DIR is high. When DIR is low, however, the outputs can move between two logic levels, low (ground) and high (VCC). A Schmitt trigger controlled input enhances noise immunity of the device.
The scheme of the working principle of TC74LCX245FTELM devices is shown on Figure 1. The devices feature an internal feedback resistor which enables them to accept input signals as low as 0.8VCC, where VCC ranges anywhere between 2.3 – 5.5V, and then transceives them with full TTL level onto the respective output pins. Similarly, the output pins drivers are configured to ensure full TTL levels drive onto the input pins at the same VCC range.

In order to ensure this process occurs correctly and efficienly, the device includes two power supply pins, VCC and GND, so that the supply voltage can be applied to the device and, thus, complete its circuitry.
TC74LCX245FTELM devices are useful in many different applications, such as serial port buffering and driving, DVB-T/H receivers, etc. In serial port buffering, the devices are used to connect between the TX and RX buses of the UART. This allows the preservation of the circuit’s integrity as the logic converts or translates the signals between the different systems. Such buffering is needed to change the serial bus logic levels of different systems that are otherwise incompatible. In high band (4.4-4.99GHz) roll-off signals for DVB-T/H receivers, the TC74LCX245FTELM are key in optimizing the link margins and maximizing the bit error rate performance of the receiver.
The TC74LCX245FTELM devices enable fast data transfer rates regardless of the voltage being supplied and the direction of the data transmission. A reliable short circuit protection prevents damage to the device for longer than 8 µs, and the maximum low output current of 10 mA helps in protecting the outputs from overloading. Low static and dynamic power works in conjunction with the CPD function to minimize the power consumption of the device. The optional ESD diode-CRC selection provides additional ESD protection with a low-resistive path.
