Tantalum capacitors, also known as tantalum electrolytic capacitors, are solid capacitors composed of tantalum foil, liquid electrolyte and anode oxide layer. The TCP0J475M8R is a type of tantalum capacitors, applying a conductive polymer anode. Compared to the traditional tantalum capacitors with liquid electrolyte, the polymer tantalum electrolytic capacitors have smaller size, higher capacity and thinner profile, also could achieve a longer life.
The working principle of the TCP0J475M8R tantalum capacitors is using the dielectric behavior of tantalum oxide film. On the surface of tantalum anode, there’s a extremely thin layer of tantalum oxide which works as the dielectric layer. When a positive voltage is applied to the anode, part of the electrons on the anode are injected into the layer of tantalum oxide to form an electric double layer on the surface. This electric double layer gives the tantalum capacitors its capacitance.
Due to their high Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) and excellent volumetric capacitance density, TC0J475M8R tantalum capacitors are widely used in many consumer elecronics, including notebook computers, standby power, computer motherboards, digital cameras, GPS navigation systems, smartphones, tablet computers and other consumer products. In addition, they can be used as alternative electrolytic capacitors in many automotive and industrial systems as well.
The TCP0J475M8R can be further divided into two categories, one with a conductive polymer anode, another without a conductive polymer anode, respectively CP-TCP0J475M8R and DC-TCP0J475M8R. The CP-TCP0J475M8R has lower Equivalent Series Resistance than DC-TCP0J475M8R, making it suitable for high current applications, while the DC-TCP0J475M8R is more stable, as its capacitance is generally more reliable.
Moreover, the CP-TCP0J475M8R also offers a longer life than DC-TCP0J475M8R, making it suitable for consumer electronics and for the applications that require higher reliability. For example, CP-TCP0J475M8R are widely used for low impedance electronic devices, such as digital cameras, smart phones, notebook computers and power supplies.
