The TCST1230 transistor output photointerrupter works by transmitting infrared light from an LED (Light Emitting Diode) to a photodiode which is placed across an open slot. When an object interrupts or shade the light beam, the photodiode output current is changed and triggers an open-collector transistor output such that an electronic circuit can be triggered or an action can be taken. The open-collector output provides a zero-cross compatible output which is ideal for TTL, CMOS, and other digital logic circuits. The device has a wide operating range from -40°C to +85°C and can be powered from 3V to 24V.
