The TDA7703 from STMicroelectronics is a single chip RF receiver that forms part of a family of products designed for radio frequency (RF) applications. The TDA7703 offers a wide range of versatile features such as reception of multiple types of digital audio standards, diversity reception, very low power consumption and high performance sensitivity. It is designed for applications including automotive audio systems, personal audio systems, digital radios and consumer electronics, as well as portable electronic devices.
The TDA7703 RF receiver is an integrated circuit (IC) consisting of a single wide-band phase-locked loop (PLL) and a radio frequency (RF) processing section. This PLL allows scanning of radio frequency channels over a wide range of frequencies and provides a low power consumption. The RF input port is connected to the RF antenna and its signal is converted into baseband audio digital signals by the RF processing section. The PLL also provides a reference frequency for the digital demodulation and signal processing to decode the digital audio signal.
The TDA7703 offers a broad RF coverage, including FM stereo broadcast, FM mono broadcast, AM broadcast, HD Radio and digital terrestrial television signals. This allows for improved reception of multiple digital audio standards. The high performance sensitivity of the TDA7703 allows for true diversity reception of FM signals with improved performance as the signals are received from two separate antennas. Additionally, the receiver provides enhanced audio quality through audio equalization and low-noise filtering.
The TDA7703 also offers low power consumption levels and is designed to match the power requirements of portable electronic devices. The integrated low standby power mode allows it to be operational while consuming minimal power, thereby reducing the overall system power requirement. The TDA7703 is contained in a compact 10mm x 10mm package.
The antenna input of the TDA7703 RF Receiver is designed to match many different antenna systems and provide increased resistance to interference. The integrated Automatic Gain Control (AGC) circuitry adjusts the signal gain automatically for maximum reception sensitivity and minimum distortion. Additionally, the TDA7703 supports closed-loop digital demodulation, which helps to improve demodulation accuracy and reduce interference.
