Working Principle

The current is then passed through a thyristor (SCR) to provide a controlled output power level. The thyristor is a four-layer device consisting of two P-type and two N-type layers, forming two P-N junctions. This allows the thyristor to be switched “ON” and “OFF”, providing control of the power. The power output can then be adjusted by varying the instantenouos voltage level. In some cases, the output can also be adjusted by controlling the current.

The output voltage of the TFA88S is controlled by two Pulse Width Modulated Output Signals that are generated by the internal microcontroller. These signals, along with the supply frequency, determine the amount of output power. The maximum peak output voltage and the current limit are adjustable via external resistors. This provides flexibility and versatility in controlling the output power. The TFA88S also offers over-voltage protection and current limit control, ensuring the safety of the system and its components.
