IrDA Transceiver Modules
Infrared Data Association (IrDA) is a communications technology established to provide a fast, reliable, and cost-effective communications solution for short-range wireless communications applications. The IrDA component of wireless communication is the data transceiver, which provides the gateway to infrared communication. The TFDU4301-TR3 IrDA transceiver module provides a convenient solution for wireless communication, which allows designers to meet the requirements of a wide range of systems that incorporate IrDA transceiver technology.
TFDU4301-TR3 application field and working principle
The TFDU4301-TR3 is an IrDA transceiver module developed by TIANYI CHIPS. It is the smallest and the most powerful IrDA transceiver of the industry, up to 115 Kbps transmission speed, which is suitable for PDA, digital camera, mobile phone, modems, printer, small embedded system and others with infrared communication needs. This transceiver has good performance under a variety of operation conditions, including a wide temperature range, low power consumption, etc.
It can send and receive data with the infrared signals. It is available in an 8-pin DIP package. The operating voltage range is from 2.7 V to 5.5 V. The communication distance is up to a maximum of 1 meter, and the baud rate can be from 2.4Kbps to 115Kbps. The receive sensitivity is better than -20dBm and the transmitter power can meet the IrDA 1.2 standard.
The TFDU4301-TR3 adopts the 32-bit MCU with integrated OS and contain several embedded commands for controlling the baud rate, sending and receiving data. The 1T module integrated into TFDU4301-TR3 allows IrDA reception & transmission to support a variety of communication protocols, supporting the SIR mode(2.4Kbps-115Kbps) and the MIR/FIR mode (4Mbps-16Mbps).
The module uses integrated circuits (IC) architecture to ensure high performance, low power consumption, high stability, high reliability, and small size. The ICs are mainly composed of 10 critical components, which include MCU, LED driver, IF amplifier, I2C bus active buffer, CDR buffer, demodulator&encoder, oscillator, modulation amplifier and other associated circuits which are all integrated in the hardware.
The module integrates an inductor on the board, which helps to convert electromagnetic energy into infrared light. It works as an oscillator and converts the electromagnetic signals generated by its internal circuit into the corresponding infrared signals. When the module receives the infrared signals from other device, it uses a photodiode to receive the infrared signals and the internal circuit will convert it into the corresponding electrical signals.
The software protocol on the module is implemented through a series of embedded commands, including byte commands, control commands and status commands. These commands include read and write commands to set the baud rate, transmit data and receive data. This makes the IrDA simple to use, making it ideal for applications requiring short-distance wireless communication.
In order to ensure the reliability and accuracy of communication, the IrDA protocol allows reliable serial communication even in noisy environments. It achieves this by effectively managing the transmission and reception of data, ranging from byte synchronization, data encoding/decoding, and signal modulation/demodulation.
The TFDU4301-TR3 provides a complete interface between the wired and the wireless world, and provides a cost-effective and reliable link between the device and the outside world. The module has a wide range of application fields, which include the most popular consumer electronics such as digital cameras, PDAs, mobile phones, network printers and many more.
