Embedded Logic Devices, or PLDs (Programmable Logic Devices) are a type of logic device designed to be integrated in complex systems and applications, for example embedded systems and internet of Things (IoT) devices. PLDs are an ideal solution for those applications that require a high degree of reliability, flexibility, scalability and performance.The TIBPAL20R4-15CFN is a PLD designed for complex embedded applications. It is based on the Advanced Programmable Logic Device (APLD) architecture, a high-performance CMOS field-programmable logic fabric technology developed by Texas Instruments (TI). The APLD architecture combines the ease of use of PALs (Programmable Array Logic) with the integrated function of larger FPGAs (Field Programmable Gate Arrays).The TIBPAL20R4-15CFN is composed of two independent logic modules: the logic device itself, which provides the logic functions, and a microprocessor, which is used to program and control the logic device. The logic module contains a two-level combinational logic tree structure and three-level sequential logic resources. The logic tree consists of a total of 16 logic elements (LEs) and 1024 product terms (Pterms). Each LE includes two four-input function blocks (FBLs). The FBLs can support multiple functions such as AND, OR, XOR and XNOR. In this way, the TIBPAL20R4-15CFN allows the user to implement complex logic functions with a few external components.The TIBPAL20R4-15CFN features two dedicated programmable logic arrays (PLAs): one with up to 32 input ports and 32 output ports; and the other with up to 8 input ports and 8 output ports. These D[o/4] and D[o/4]E elements enable the user to quickly create complex functions with the use of just a few external components.The TIBPAL20R4-15CFN also has a wide selection of memory elements, allowing it to store information. These memory elements include static RAM (SRAM), digital RAM (DRAM) and FIFO (First-In, First-Out) memory. This wide selection of memory makes the TIBPAL20R4-15CFN particularly suitable for applications that require a large amount of data storage or buffering.The TIBPAL20R4-15CFN can be programmed with a range of programming languages, such as C, C++, Java and VHDL, including TI’s eXtensible Markup Language (XML).
