TL034CD

The TL034CD is a precision, high-speed JFET-input operational amplifier. Though the device is designed to operate in the audio frequency range, its high slew rate and low noise make it suitable for many wide-band applications. It has an operating voltage range of ±15V, and the output voltage swing can reach a maximum of ±13.5V.

Application Field

The TL034CD is primarily used in audio equipment such as preamps, equalizers, multiband compressors, peak limiters, mixers, and audio filters. It can also be used for signal conditioning in instrumentation, precision rectification, measuring the RMS of a low-frequency signal, and pulse-width modulation circuits. Furthermore, its high slew rate can be employed in ultra-high frequency applications, such as sampling oscilloscopes and other test instrumentation.

Working Principle

The TL034CD is a single amplifier, and its output is determined by the voltage applied to the input terminal, while the current flowing through the input terminal is almost zero. The amplifier consists of two transistors in an NPN configuration, and its symbol can be represented as shown below.

The two transistors are coupled together input-to-output. The current flow through the transistors produces an amplified voltage at the output. The voltage can be further modified by an emitter resistor, which allows for adjustment of the voltage gain of the amplifier. The emitter resistor also helps to further reduce distortion in the signal.

The output voltage of the amplifier is usually set by the power supply voltage. Usually, the power supply voltage is the same as the output voltage. However, if the output voltage is required to be higher than the power supply voltage, a diode or a power-supply voltage regulator can be used to regulate the output voltage.

To help reduce noise, the TL034CD is provided with an internal compensation capacitor, which keeps the amplifier operating in unity-gain mode over a wide frequency range. The capacitor is also necessary for high-frequency operation, as it keeps the amplifier from oscillation.
