TL16C554PNR is an integrated circuit for the physical-layer portion of the Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter (UART) bi-directional serial transmission standard. It combines the functions of two separate chips, essentially turning two chips’ worth of logic into a single, more cost-efficient package. It contains the majority of the logic needed to serialize and deserialize data and provides the necessary electrical and communications interfaces at both the device and larger network levels.

The TL16C554PNR is designed to support data rates up to 1.5 Mbaud. It features two separate ports and four full-duplex channels allowing both the transmission and reception of data. Each port can support up to sixteen independent channels. The TL16C554PNR is usually configured as an eight-bit receiver and eight-bit transmitter that are driven by a clock signal and an n-bit frame signal.

The TL16C554PNR incorporates various synchronizing techniques as well as many of the popular serial-protocols.
