The TL3695D provides a highly integrated solution to the physical layer requirements for 10/100Base-T Ethernet (IEEE 802.3u). It consists of a high-speed 3.3V CMOS transceiver, an independent encoder, decoder and Analog Front-End (AFE). The TL3695D supports auto-negotiation and auto-crossover functions, allowing it to detect the connected cable type automatically, detect and correct polarity reversal and bypass the crossover function when the required cable type is present.
Application Field
The TL3695D is suitable for various applications including automotive, set-top boxes, chargers, medical instruments, panic alarm systems, industrial controllers and many other embedded 10/100Base-T applications. It can transmit and receive data at a rate of up to 10/100 Mbps, with an operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C. It requires a single 3.3V supply voltage, and is available in an 8-pin SOIC package.
Working Principle
At the physical layer, the TL3695D performs a number of functions, including the conversion of digital data to analog signals for transmission onto the media, and the reception and decoding of analog signals from the media. It also supports auto-negotiation and auto-crossover to detect the cable type and bypass the crossover when the required cable type is present.
In addition, the device provides complete signal conditioning to reduce signal jitter and EMI generation. This is achieved through adaptive equalization, decision feedback equalization (DFE), and continuous time equalization (CTE), as well as advanced power management features such as low-power spoof mode and low-power IEEE 802.3u auto-negotiation.
The TL3695D also features integrated analog front-end (AFE) circuitry which provides the interface between the physical media and the media access controller (MAC) layer of the system. The AFE consists of a voltage regulator, error detectors, loopback detectors, and squelch circuitry. The AFE provides the signals and control signals required by the interface, enabling the transceiver to detect and decode data on the media.
In addition to the AFE, the TL3695D also includes a 10/100Base-T PHY, which contains digital signal processing (DSP) logic to process data from the data link layer and physical layer of the system. The DSP logic performs the necessary signal conditioning, which includes echo cancellation for full duplex operation, adaptive equalization to reduce signal jitter, DFE to reduce closed-loop jitter, and continuous time equalization for improved signal integrity. The DSP also supports an auto-negotiation service and auto-crossover to detect the connected cable type.
The TL3695D also implements a number of power-saving features such as reduced-power modes, low-power IEEE 802.3u auto-negotiation, and the ability to enter low-power spoof mode, in order to control the overall power consumption.
