The TL7660CDRG4 is a monolithic integrated circuit in a 4-pin SOT-23 package. It is primarily designed for use in high-side, low-side and dual switch step-down DC-to-DC converters. It features excellent thermal stability, soft start, adjustable and user-programmed soft start, excellent power efficiency and frequency response. TL7660CDRG4 also includes overcurrent and thermal protection, overvoltage protection, bidirectional and reverse polarity protection, and a wide range of operating frequencies.

Working Principle
The TL7660CDRG4 uses a high-side, low-side, or dual switch architecture. This architecture features two main components: a P-MOSFET as the main switch and a N-MOSFET as the control switch. When the device is enabled, the control switch biases the gate of the main switch and pulls it to the source voltage, allowing it to conduct the current. This closes the channel between the drain and source terminals, routing it to the output. To keep the output voltage at the desired level, the device provides a feedback connection to monitor the output voltage. The feedback signal is sent to the internal voltage error amplifier, which compares it with the desired output voltage reference. Any difference between the feedback voltage and the reference voltage triggers modulation of the MOSFETs\' gate driving signals. This results in power conversion at the desired output voltage level.
The TL7660CDRG4 is equipped with a slew rate control mechanism and a soft start feature that ensure stable start-up conditions. The slew rate control reduces the frequency of the burst-mode switching, providing stability to the output voltage and reducing EMI radiation. The soft start feature enables a gradual increase in the supply voltage, avoiding inrush current peaks. It also helps protect the load against overvoltage conditions.
