Working Principle

• The supply voltage must exceed the undervoltage lockout (UVLO) threshold for the device to be enabled.

Once the VCC voltage exceeds the POR threshold and the device is enabled, the RESET output will be asserted at a high voltage indicating that the system is in a reset state. As long as the VCC voltage remains above both the POR and UVLO thresholds, the device will remain enabled and the RESET output will remain asserted.

If the VCC voltage drops below the UVLO threshold, then the device will be disabled and the RESET output will be deasserted. This is known as “undervoltage lockout” and is used to protect the system from very low supply voltages.

If the VCC voltage rises past the POR threshold again, then the device will be enabled and the RESET output will be asserted again. This is known as “power-on reset” and is used to ensure that the system starts from a known state after a power cycle. The POR threshold is adjustable using the external resistor network connected to the VREF and PEN pins.
