The TLC3541EVM evaluation module (EVM) is a versatile tool used to evaluate the performance of Texas Instruments’ low-power, 12-bit Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC).

With a sample rate of 250 kilo-samples-per-second, this Evaluation Module offers a range of features that make it an ideal choice for a wide range of applications. It is capable of handling voltage up to ±10.0 volts and temperature measurements from -20 to 120ºC. The onboard programmable Gain Amplifier (PGA) has a range of -16 to +24DB and the digitally controllable differential amplifier gain can be configured for a range of 0 to 30V/V.

The full-scale input range for the TLC3541EVM is programmable from a resolution of one bit to two bits, making it ideal for measuring low-level signals with higher accuracy. An extremely low-noise PGA further increases the accuracy of the measured results. In addition, the Evaluation Module is provided with an internal regulated linear power supply that allows it to operate independently of its connection to the target system.

The Evaluation Module includes an I2C and SPI interface for bidirectional communication with the target system. This makes it easy to configure the ADC performance and store results. The module also includes digital signal processing (DSP) functions, such as differential nonlinearity (DNL), integral nonlinearity (INL), and total harmonic distortion (THD) compensation.

The TLC3541EVM can be used to measure a range of signals, including thermocouples, thermistors, RTDs, strain gauges, and transducer outputs. It is suitable for industrial process control as well as medical and automotive applications. Because of its low power dissipation and high dynamic range, the module is often used in portable instrumentation.

The core of the TLC3541EVM is the Texas Instruments TLC354X 10-bit dual-channel ADC. This device uses a differential conversion method to achieve high linearity and accuracy at sample rates up to 256 kilo-samples-per-second. The digital output is provided in LVTTL and SPI compatible formats.

The Evaluation Module includes a number of self-test and diagnostic features that can be used to verify its accuracy and performance. In addition, the module includes an on-chip voltage reference and a built-in temperature monitoring circuit for more accurate results.
