TLC372QD is a dual separately-controlled, high-speed comparator with an open-collector output stage. It is a type of linear-comparator, manufactured by Texas Instruments; it is an easy-to-use, low-cost device with high performance. The TLC372QD is used in many types of applications, such as data communications, radio frequency systems, power supplies, sensor signal conditioning and interfacing logic, amongst many others.

The comparator is based on voltage-subtraction technique, with a specially designed circuitry that allows to reduce undesired offset voltages. The input signal is fed to the comparator’s noninverting input terminal via an external resistor. The voltage at the noninverting input is compared to the reference voltage at the inverting input. An open collector output stage is employed in order to reduce output noise.

At the output, the comparator’s output voltage is low when the signal at the noninverting input is greater than the reference voltage at the inverting input. Similarly, when the signal at the noninverting input is lower than the reference voltage at the inverting input, the comparator’s output voltage will be high.
