In this mode of operation, an external capacitor is again charged from an external resistor, and when it reaches two-thirds of the supply voltage, the output goes high. However, the voltage across the capacitor is then monitored, and when it reaches one-third of the supply voltage, the output is cleared. When the voltage of the capacitor reaches two-thirds of the supply voltage again, the output is retriggered.
The TLC556CN is also capable of pulse-position and frequency-modulation applications. In this mode of operation, an internal current source is connected to the external capacitor. When the voltage across the capacitor reaches one-third of the supply voltage, the output is cleared and the internal current is synchronized with the external resistor, by which the output frequency is adjusted. When the voltage across the capacitor reaches two-thirds of the supply voltage, the output is retriggered, and the output frequency is adjusted again.
