Light-emitting diode (LED) is a semiconductor light source. It is used in various applications such as illumination, signal transmission, and automotive lighting, etc. LED\'s efficient luminous flux results in lower energy consumption and higher luminous efficacy, making LED a preferred choice for lighting applications. To effectively power LEDs, LED drivers are essential components. TLD1326ELXUMA1 is a LED driver, categorized as PMIC (Power Management IC) - LED Drivers.

TLD1326ELXUMA1 is an accurate primary-side current sensing LED driver, capable of controlling the LED brightness with high accuracy enabled by constant-on-time (COT) architecture. This LED driver is specifically designed with 5V input and supports driving an up to 90W LED string with up to 10 parallel strings.

TLD1326ELXUMA1 is composed of a high voltage switch, integrated PFC, a current-sense comparator and an adjustable-current-limit, a linear regulator (VREF), a soft-start circuit, an enable circuit, and a flag circuit.

When VIN is applied, the device is turned on and the main switch is activated. Meanwhile, the input PFC stage begins to operate to obtain a power factor-corrected voltage of around 380V. Therefore, the current that runs through the LED will reach the maximum value limited by the current-sense comparator. If the current exceeds the set current limit, the main switch is immediately turned off. The current to the LED will not sustain after the switch is off, and it goes to the VIN. The voltage drop across the current-sense resistor, Rsense, causes VREF to drop for a time duration determined by the adjustable COT time, τ. If the COT time τ is set long enough, the VREF drops back to VREF in each cycling time. The voltage drops across the current-sense resistor, Rsense, and can be whose as a reference to adjust the LED current sense limit. Therefore, a closed-loop will be formed to control the output current of the LED string to the current sense limit.

Once the VCTL voltage reaches 260V, the device goes into light load regulation mode to reduce the LED current. The flag circuit will report light load condition to the system. While the LED string current is below 75% of the LED current sense limit, the LED will be prevented from over-powered by reducing COT.

Moreover, TLD1326ELXUMA1 has current-mode constant-on-time control in cycling mode and analog dimming control from the external voltage, supporting unity power factor even at very light load. It also has a ultra-fast soft start for fast and smooth turn-on of the LED. In order to reduce the system cost and complexity, TLD1326ELXUMA1 substitutes any bias winding with an integrated low-cost external diode.
