TLE6255GNTMA1 Application Field and Working Principle
The TLE6255GNTMA1 is a high-efficiency integrated power-converter IC developed by Infineon Technologies AG. It is primarily used as a driver, receiver, and transceiver intended for controlling of power MOSFETs and IGBTs.
The IC integrates a wide range of features such as active cross-conduction prevention (ACCP), dynamic over current protection (DOCP), slew-rate tuning, synchronous rectification (SR) control, under voltage protection (UVP) and over temperature protection (OTP). It also includes integrated Load-dependent short-circuit output current limitation, a load-dependent short-circuit delay time characteristic, a wide programmable dead time range, signal output drivers for gate drives of the external power switches, and a watchdog for the MCU.
Application Field

Working Principle
The TLE6255GNTMA1 utilizes active cross-conduction prevention (ACCP) to avoid the turn-on overlap of the high- and low-side external power switches. With ACCP, the current that would normally flow in a deadtime period is diverted away from the power switches, eliminating the need for an additional energy storage element. This in turn reduces the size of the drive circuit, as well as system costs associated with the smaller bill of materials.
The IC also implements dynamic over current protection (DOCP), which enables fast, safe, and programmable over current protection of power MOSFETs and IGBTs during hard-switching events. This can prevent thermal shutdown of the external power switches and increase the overall system efficiency. Additionally, the load-dependent short-circuit output current limitation and load-dependent short-circuit delay time characteristics reduce the stress on the power switches by limiting their load current and delay time when necessary.
Along with these features, the TLE6255GNTMA1 also has a slew-rate tuning feature that allows the user to precisely adjust the switching speed of the external power switches. This, in turn, reduces the transition noise and radiation emissions and improves system stability, which is important in applications such as automotive, where minimal disturbance to other electronic components is desired.
The integrated under voltage protection (UVP) and over temperature protection (OTP) features protect the IC from sudden spikes in voltage or current and from overheating that can lead to permanent damage of the IC itself and its connected components.
Finally, the signal output drivers enable control for the MOSFETs and IGBTs, and the built-in watchdog monitors the MCU and indicates an MCU error should one occur.
