Working Principle

The TLP131(F) consists of an LED input coupler connected to an NPN output phototransistor. When an input voltage is applied to the LED, the input current is amplified and the output phototransistor is turned on. The output signal is then available at the collector of the output phototransistor. The LED can be driven with either a DC or an AC signal, depending on the type of device chosen.

Additionally, the TLP131(F) includes a built-in current limiting resistor which ensures that the LED is not driven with more current than its rating. Furthermore, it has a built-in reverse current protection circuit which prevents damage due to accidental reverse connection of the power supply.

For digital signal transmission, the TLP131(F) provides a signaling transmission speed of up to 10Mbps. The load voltage of the output phototransistor can be switched between a nominal 5V or 3.3V, allowing flexible compatibility with various microcontrollers and other digital circuit components.
