Optoisolators are a form of electrical isolation that use light to enable separation of two parts of a circuit. Level sensitive components, like digital logic or low-level analog signals, are increasingly sensitive to noise and a jolt of current along a conductor can cause damage. This is where optoisolators come in.

TLP182 is a type of optoisolator, known as a Transistor, Photovoltaic Output (Y-TPL). It offers high-speed, low-saturation voltage performance with high isolation voltage, making it suitable for a large range of applications.

The basic working principle of Y-TPL optoisolators is quite simple. An LED is illuminated by an input voltage, which generates a current flow.
