Optoisolators are widely used in a range of applications as an effective way of isolating electrical circuits. The TLP292-4(GB-TP,E) is an optoisolator that allows for a two-way isolation of a signal between two circuits. It features an LED light-emitting diode (LED) and a photosensor that is encapsulated within one item which both works in tandem to create electrical isolation.

Working Principle

The TLP292-4(GB-TP,E) optoisolator works on the principle of photovoltaic output. It consists of a light-emitting diode (LED) on one side of a plastic optical transmission block, and a photosensor on the other side. When an electric input signal is passed into the LED, light is emitted from the LED and is then detected by the photosensor on the other side. This causes a current to be generated in the primary circuit and then a voltage is induced between the two terminals of the optoisolator, thus providing electrical isolation between the two circuits.

The connection of the TLP292-4(GB-TP,E) optoisolator to the two circuits is extremely simple. On either side of the optoisolator, one side of the input circuit must be connected to the LED and the other side to the sensor. The current/voltage in the primary circuit will turn the LED on or off, depending on the input to the sensor. The induced voltage across the two terminals of the optoisolator will then switch the signal in the secondary circuit.

The TLP292-4(GB-TP,E) is a transistor output optoisolator capable of providing high-speed load switching and signal transmission. The switching time of the optoisolator is 0.6µs and 6.0µs respectively for the rise and fall times, and offers a wide range of operating temperatures from -40ºC to 85ºC. It also offers a high galvanic isolation of 4000Vrms, making it ideal for applications that require high voltage isolation.
