Isolators are devices used to electrically separate two circuits, often transforming they way signals or power is transferred between the two. TLP705A(F) is an optically isolated gate driver which is specifically designed to operate MOSFET and IGBT switches. It is used in most applications where the power added by the load needs to be isolated from the power supply side. It has an input/output isolation voltage of 5.0kVrms, a transfer rate of 5 megabit/sec, and a minimum isolation resistance of 100Gohm between input and output. The TLP705A(F) is composed of a high speed inverter within an optically isolated package, and includes EMI filters supplied to reduce noise and improve system performance.

The main application areas of the TLP705A(F) are: automotive systems; circuit testing and measurement systems; home appliances; PLC and DCS systems; audio and video processing systems; and telecommunications systems. This device is also used for lighting controls such as street lighting and tunnel lighting systems, and for other communication systems such as industrial Ethernet networks and modbus systems.

The working principle of the TLP705A(F) is based on a opto-isolator using on a GaAIAs/GaAs (Gallium Arsenide/Gallium Arsenide) light-emitting diode (LED) and a photo-MOSFET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor) pair. The input signal is driven by the LED, and then, the generated light is kept on generating an optical bridge between the driver side and the switch side. The generated photo sensor output states trigger the control signal of the switch side MOSFETs. This device allows for switching of the MOSFETs with slewing rate of 5 megahertz and a maximum propagation delay of 60 nano-seconds.
