Optoisolators are electronic devices which provide electrical isolation between circuits. The TLP759 (D4, J, F) optoisolator is a type of transistor-photovoltaic (TPO) optoisolator. TPO optoisolators are designed to isolate circuits by using a light-emitting diode (LED) to drive a PNP-type transistor. The photo-voltaic effect causes the LED to emit electrons, which are then collected by the transistor and collected by the collector terminal. The resultant current flow creates a zero-impedance separation between the input and the output circuits.
The TLP759 optoisolator has many advantages over other types of optoisolators; it has high isolation resistance of 1000Vrms, fast response time of 5 to 10 nanoseconds, and its isolated output stage can provide high current drive up to 25 MA. Additional features of the TLP759 include an on-chip resistor that helps minimize the LED’s loading effect and reduce power consumption, and a maximum collector-emitter voltage of 1.6 A.
