Tantalum capacitors utilize a solid tantalum anode body, and manganese dioxide as the cathode material, with a solid or liquid electrolyte. They are generally made in the form of cylindrical or flat encapsulated units or as chip-type components. The electrostatic energy is released as the oxide layer quickly recombines when the power is removed, again creating an effective insulating barrier.
