PMIC - Motor Drivers, Controllers
The TMC260-PA-T is a highly integrated, three-phase microstepping motor driver IC, designed to drive a two-phase or single-phase bipolar stepper motor system. The integrated motion controller in this device can execute all common operating modes of a stepper motor system, including microstepping, full-/half-/diagonal-copping, ramp acceleration/deceleration, positioning, and speed-controlled operation. Working Principle
The TMC260-PA-T consists of two main components, the motion controller and the gate drivers. The motion controller is responsible for generating and controlling the control signals that will drive the motor. This is done by means of an internal waveform generator and a digital filter. The waveform generator is set up using the waveform parameters defined in the configuration and a profile that is programmed into the onboard EEPROM memory. The digital filter is used for the waveform generation, thereby enabling fine-grain control over the stepping motor.
The gate drivers are responsible for translating the control signals from the motion controller into the power stage inputs. This is done by using pulse width modulation (PWM) to control the gate signals of the gate drivers. In addition, the gate drivers are used to control braking of the stepper motor, allowing for faster deceleration.
