TMS320C6474FZUN8 is a fourth-generation digital signal processor (DSP) designed mainly for embedded applications. It is based on the Texas Instruments C6000 G-Series architecture combined with the High Performance Floating-Point Unit and an 6 x 128KB shared L2 on-chip memory system. It provides high throughput and very low power consumption, making it ideal for multimedia, communications, and control applications.The TMS320C6474FZUN8 is designed to perform general purpose, multimedia and communications processing applications. It features a wide range of features that enable low-power, real-time operation and facilitate a wide range of hardware and software applications. The TMS320C6474FZUN8 is a fully programmable digital signal processor that contains a large amount of DSP-specific functions. It includes on-chip memory for storing data and instruction codes, a cache system for fast loading of instructions, a floating-point unit for handling intensive calculations, an I/O bridge and an inter-processor communications system.The TMS320C6474FZUN8 can be configured to operate as either embedded or as a standalone processor and is capable of both fixed-point and floating-point operations. It supports up to 16 simultaneous data streams and 8 simultaneous instruction streams. This allows multiple instructions to execute at the same time and helps in reducing operating power. As mentioned earlier, the processor supports multiple instruction sets and the instruction set architecture is designed to make efficient use of the limited instruction length and data width available. The processor features a pipeline architecture which is designed to optimize memory operations and effectively use the instruction memory and data memory. This architecture is also designed to support continual instruction prefetching which helps to reduce the instruction fetch cycle time.At the heart of the processor is the high performance floating-point unit (FPU) for high-performance math intensive applications. The FPU is capable of 32-bit single-precision and 64-bit double precision operations. The FPU is coupled with an interleaved structure to provide an extreme performance benefit. The processor also includes an advanced memory management system which consists of a 2MB L2 cache, 128KB L1 cache, a 128KB shared DMA RAM, and an 8KB L2 RAM. The L1 cache provides for fast instruction fetching, data handling, and code optimization. The shared DMA RAM is used to increase system throughput and reduce contention between multiple threads. Finally, the TMS320C6474FZUN8 features multiple I/O options including high-speed USB, Ethernet, CAN-bus, HD audio and video, Flash, SPI, parallel port, and JTAG.All these features make the TMS320C6474FZUN8 an ideal choice for a wide range of embedded applications including communications, multimedia, signal processing, medical and industrial automation, image processing, and automotive applications.
