TN22-1500B-TR application field and working principle

TN22-1500B-TR is a special type of semiconductor, known as the Thyristor. Application Field

The TN22-1500B-TR Thyristor is a high power semiconductor device which is capable of providing up to a maximum of 1500 volts and 22 amperes. It is a high-performance device which can be used in a wide range of applications. Some of the common applications include:

Working Principle

The TN22-1500B-TR Thyristor is a four-layer device made from silicon. It has three terminals or pins and two major regions, the anode and the cathode. When current is applied to the anode, it provides a path for electrons to travel towards the cathode. This action is possible due to the formation of a predetermined voltage level, known as the PIV breakdown voltage. Once the breakdown voltage is reached, the device is turned on and a high current flows through it.

The available current is limited by certain characteristics of the device such as the anode-cathode voltage drop, the forward current and the forward voltage drop. The current is limited by the forward current, which is the value that can be maintained when the device is under a fixed voltage. The voltage is limited by the forward voltage drop which is the value that is needed for the device to remain ‘on’.

The device is turned ‘off’ when the current is removed from the anode. It can also be turned ‘off’ by applying a reverse voltage to the cathode. The reverse voltage applied must be greater than the PIV breakdown voltage. This action is known as ‘commutation’.
