TPS2063D

TPS2063D is a power management integrated circuit (PMIC) and plays an important role in Power Distribution Switch and Load Driver. It was designed to provide increased control and safety to power systems that uses power factor correction (PFC) circuits. Working Principle

The TPS2063D works by performing two functions. First, it provides control of the power supply to ensure that the output voltage is maintained. Second, it provides protection against over-temperature, over-voltage, and over-current. This protection is accomplished by using PFC and over-voltage protection (OVP) circuitry.

The power conversion is controlled by a pulse-width modulation (PWM) signal. The PFC circuit converts the ac power to a dc voltage by converting the input voltage to a higher nominal dc voltage that is regulated using the control loop. The controller uses the FB pin voltage to detect the output voltage, compare it with the thresholds, and generate the control pulse.

The OVP circuit monitors the output voltage and shuts down the PFC circuit in case of an over-voltage. The over-temperature protection circuit monitors the junction temperature of the device and shuts down the PFC circuit in case of an over-temperature. The over-current protection circuit is used to detect an over-current condition by monitoring the power level and trip the circuit to shut down.

In case of a fault condition, the protection circuits will generate an interrupt signal. The TPS2063D can be set to the desired mode of operation via the Mode Select pin. The status signals are provided on the Status pins that can be used to monitor the power supply.
