Working Principle

The TPS2231PWR is a low on-resistance, N-channel ROK-NOKTM load switch with dynamic power-on sequencing capability. The device includes an integrated power-on reset control circuit and open LED indicator function to simplify power-on sequencing and diagnostic. All the power rail in a system typically use several power sources and require power up and down sequencing to ensure a smooth transition from one voltage point to another. The TPS2231PWR provides such sequencing capability through its integrated Power-On Reset control logic. The enable control logic control the gate voltage of the internal N-channel FET to enable or disable power delivery to downstream loads.

The gate of the internal N-channel MOSFET follows the input enable state. When the enable voltage falls above the enable-high logic voltage threshold (VH), whose typical value is 1.7V, the gate of internal FET switches to the logic high state and the switch is opened. When the enable voltage drops below the enable-low logic threshold (VL), whose typical value is 1.2V, the gate of internal FET switches to the logic low state, and the switch is closed. The inrush current can be limited with an easy and inexpensive capacitor connected in series with the enable pin.

To use the open LED indicator function of the TPS2231PWR device, simply connect a low-Io host to the LED pin via a current-limiting resistor. When the TPS2231PWR device is enabled, the LED pin will be driven to its low state and the LED will be in its off state.
