TPS22933AEVM-005 is an evaluation and demonstration boards and kits developed by Texas Instruments. It is a low quiescent current, bidirectional active load switch that supports up to 15V input/output voltage, low R\DS(ON), and up to 70mA load current. TPS22933AEVM-005 is designed for easy evaluation of the TPS22933 and helps users to familiarize themselves with active load switch architecture, verify its functionality, and develop applications around it.
The TPS22933 AEVM board includes the TPS22933 integrated circuit encapsulated in a 8-pin LLP, and adjacently embedded two rows of connector headers, DC power supply, and a current load resistor. The various components of TPS22933AEVM enable the user to verify the operation of an active load switch in various applications. Additionally each evaluation board includes the TLV801, an LDO voltage regulator, that supplies low noise and low-dropout output voltage for supply by the TPS22933.
The TPS22933AEVM-005 operates in four switch states. When the enables is high, the ON state is enabled, allowing current to flow from the output to the load. When it is in the OFF state, current is prevented from flowing by the presence of the high impedance switch. The OFF state is enabled when the enable is low. The two remaining states are ACTIVE LATCH OFF and ACTIVE LATCH ON. The active-high enable input for the active latch off allows for the voltage of the VIN terminal to be brought to low impedance, while the active-low enable input allows for the voltage of the VIN terminal to be brought to high impedance. This provides quick response time without the need to sequentially power cycle the TPS22933.
The Interface board is an additional part of the evaluation board. It was developed to provide better ease of operation and to make the switch application configurable. In addition to the features provided by the evaluation model, it also provides control for the switch enable inputs and the ability to monitor the switch signals. It also enables the user to employ manual control for power cycling the TPS22933.
The power supply input is routed via the input header, where the negative terminal of the DC source is connected to the GND strip on the board and the positive terminal is connected to the VIN/VOUT header. Once the board power is successfully supplied, an LED will light up. This LED serves to indicate power supply availability to the board.
The board enable signal for TPS22933 is derived through the jumper connections ENABL1 and ENABL2. When in the OFF state, jumper configuration must disable the control voltage for both enable pins. The enable signals can be manually produced by toggling corresponding switch position to "High" or "Low". This in turn allows manual control for switching the TPS22933 between On and Off states.
The current is monitored through the current sense resistor. This is done by measuring the voltage drop across the resistor. The power dissipation of the board must be monitored by connecting a power monitor to the VIN/VOUT header. The current load resistor allows manual control for adjusting the current that flows through the board.
In addition to the monitoring options mentioned before, the Interface board enables a feature that allows disconnecting and reconnecting the signal pins of the TPS22933. This is done by manually toggling the switch present on the board for connecting signal pins. This feature can be used to verify the operation of the TPS22933 and analyse the switch behaviour in various applications, such as load shedding or noise filtering.
Altogether the TPS22933AEVM-005 is a complete evaluation and demonstration board and kit enabling ease of operation while improving the capabilities of the application. With this board users are able to test the TPS22933AIC, understand its functionality, and measure effective performance of their design.
