The Texas Instruments TPS2459EVM is an evaluation and demonstration board and kit designed for evaluating and demonstrating the TPS2459, a low-side, automotive qualified, synchronous rectifier switch. The TPS2459EVM is a complete turnkey solution for evaluating and implementing the TPS2459 in an automotive application. The board supports a wide variety of automotive and industrial applications, including DC/DC backlight and LED invocations.The TPS2459 device enables designers to maximize system efficiency and design flexibility by providing industry-leading RDS(ON) values in a low-profile SO-8 package. For a given power delivery topology, the addition of a synchronous rectifier increases the power efficiency of the system typically by 1% to 4%, depending on the system load. The main features of the TPS2459EVM are an intelligent control loop that provides fast and robust control of loop parameters. This is accomplished through a combination of external components and on-chip control loop parameters which can be adjusted via SPI programming. The TPS2459EVM also includes a fully populated test board that enables the user to evaluate the performance of the TPS2459 in various automotive conditions and environments.The kits contents include an evaluation board, software, and all necessary accessories. The evaluation board fits into a 3U, Eurocard form factor and is supplied with its own dedicated mains voltage regulator. The board has an 8-pin SOIC package with six user switches conveniently located for monitoring the signals on the device.In order to use the TPS2459EVM, the user must provide a 3.3V DC power source with a minimum output current of 1 A. The board’s DC/DC converter is then used to supply the necessary voltages to the TPS2459. When the board is operational, the user can then monitor the various signals in real time with the included software. The software is designed to provide comprehensive insight into the various signals generated by the TPS2459 and to aid the user in tuning the control loop parameters to achieve optimal performance.The evaluation board also contains jumpers for adjusting the power stage of the device. This feature eliminates the need for manual soldering when changing components, providing the user with a more efficient way to tune the device.The TPS2459EVM is ideal for evaluating, prototyping, and demonstrating the TPS2459 in automotive, industrial, and communications applications. Its combination of intelligent control loop and fully populated test board makes it the perfect solution for any application requiring power delivery with high efficiency and design flexibility.
