The TPS2492EVM-003 is an application field and working principle of a Evaluation and Demonstration Boards and Kits. This EVM is designed to demonstrate the features of the TPS2492 the single port USB type-C and PD controller from Texas Instruments. The TPS2492EVM-003 Evaluation Board consists of a PC board, an LCD display, a tactile switch, a USB type-C connector and a USB-C Connector Detection device.The working principle of TPS2492EVM-003 is powered without an eFuse undervoltage lockout on VIN. The board is powered through the USB-C connector for Type-C plug detection. The detection device senses the type-C plug orientation when the USB cable is connected to the USB Type-C connector and determines the corresponding pin assignment. A microcontroller loaded with a preprogrammed application, is used to controlthe LCD display.The microcontroller also provides the interface with the TPS2492 device by controlling the logical lines. When a USB Type-C cable is connected to the powered board,D+ and D- pins get connected to source end and devices are ready for USB data communication.The microcontroller senses the USB detection and powers up the TPD2490 device. The TPS2492 device enables single port USB Type-C and Power delivery for providing high power and bi-directional charging, using the USB-C cable andconnector. The device includes a programmable port controller that can be used for PD communication and power delivery. The TPS2490EVM-003 is also capable of supporting MDM9x40 and 7x30 devices for backward compatibility and support for BC 1.2. The device is pin-compatible with the TIUSB31USB2.0 Type-C port controller which enables USB 2.0 SuperSpeed data communication. In addition, the device can be used to connect to external LCDs, audio codecs, LEDs and other I/Os to enable easy communication with the peripheral devices.

The TPS2492EVM-003 Evaluation board also includes an analog control circuit for controlling the output voltage of the power delivery. The analog circuit consists of a voltage regulate controller U7 which is connected to a voltage feedback pin. The voltage feedback pin senses the voltage of the output from the power delivery and generates a feedback signal to the voltage regulation controller.The controller adjusts the output voltage accordingly. The analog controller can be adjusted by the user to achieve any desired output voltage.In addition, the user can adjust the current limit in order to achieve any desired output current.

The TPS2492EVM-003 Evaluation Board also includes a load switch U8 which serves as a power switch for the EVM. When the load switch is turned on, the output from the power delivery is provided to the load. The load switch consists of an input port, an output port, and a control pin. The control pin is instructed by the microcontroller to switch the load switch on or off. The EVM is powered up when the load switch is turned on at boot up.

The TPS2492EVM-003 Evaluation board provides an easy and comprehensive way to evaluate and demonstrate the features of the TPS2492 device. It is ideal for evaluation of USB type-C and PD applications and offers an excellent solution for prototyping and development. With its intuitive design and user adjustable settings, the EVM is a great platform for testing and evaluation of the TPS2492 device.
