It integrates various power management functions including power switch control, power supply sequencing, power measurement, output current regulation, and fault protection. This device provides a flexible and cost effective solution for a wide range of power management needs, from changing inputs up to 8A output current.The TPS5110PWR supports a wide range of switch configurations including: single power switch, two power switches, two power switches in parallel, two power switches in series and two power switches with one undervoltage lockout. It also supports up to four buffered power supply sequencing output stages. It also offers an extended operating supply voltage range (1.5V to 28V), various fault monitoring functions, such as over temperature detection, soft start and over current protection.The TPS5110PWR has two major applications fields:

• Regulating Output Current: The TPS5110PWR can be used to maintain a constant output current from the tailored switch control. It can regulate the voltage of the main switch, two buck switches and two LDO regulators.
• Power Supply Sequencing: The TPS5110PWR provides a complete power supply sequencing solution with two main outputs. The main outputs enable up to four stages of controlled power sequencing, which can be configured for either continuous or burst operation.

The TPS5110PWR includes a range of protection and fault monitoring functions. These include an on-chip thermostat to monitor over-temperature events, a timer-based soft start circuitry to prevent inrush currents, and an over-current protection scheme to detect excessive output load current.The working principle behind the TPS5110PWR is a constant-frequency, duty-cycle pulse-width modulation architecture. This architecture enables a controlled switching frequency, independent of the load conditions. The frequency of the switching scheme is typically set to 500 kHz to 1 MHz, and the duty-cycle is adjusted to achieve the desired output voltage. The duty cycle can be adjusted from 20% to 80%, depending on the load and output requirements.
