The TPS51163DRCR is a synchronous rectified buck controller which is designed for efficient point-of-load DC/DC conversion in high voltage applications with low power dissipation. It belongs to a family of DC/DC switching controllers which is under the PMIC - Voltage Regulators - DC DC Switching Controllers umbrella.The TPS51163DRCR device offers two output channels and incorporates over-voltage protection (OVP) to provide extra robustness. Several protection features such as input under-voltage protection and over-current protection are integrated in the device, providing safe operation to the system.
Application Field and Working Principle
The TPS51163DRCR device offers a wide range of applications, including memory modules, processors, DSPs, ASICs, FPGAs and other point-of-load DC/DC applications. It is suitable for high voltage point of load conversion in server, storage and networking systems.This synchronous rectified buck controller utilizes a current mode control with voltage loop feedback which helps to reduce the power loss and improve the efficiency of the power conversion. Its input voltage range is from 6V to 40V and has an adjustable output voltage from 0.6V to 0.95*Vin. The switching frequency range is from 400kHz to 3MHz and it can support a programmed external soft-start function.The TPS51163DRCR device includes two independent outputs which can be enabled/disabled by two digital signals and select synchronous or asynchronous control. Besides, the device offers an enable/disable control pin, an input voltage pin and an output voltage pin to monitor and control the output voltage. It also has an Open/Close Loop Option pin which allows the user to select the DC/DC conversion loop type.The device includes various levels of protection to ensure system reliability. It has over-current protection and under-voltage protection which monitors the input voltage.
