TPS5403DR Integrated Circuits (ICs)

TPS5403DR is a DC–DC, Switching-Mode Converter Controller with a single output, operating in the step–down (buck) configuration. It is specially designed for high efficiency and low noise systems. It features wide input voltage range from 3.0V to 18V and adjustable high frequency switchers from 200KHz to 2MHz. It contains a differential amplifier, two error amplifiers, and two low power MOSFETs to form a synchronous rectifier. The built-in loop control circuit has been optimized to deliver a superior transient response and high efficiency over a wide input voltage range. And it also provides a wide temperature range with thermal shutdown protection.

Working principle

TPS5403DR uses a synchronous rectifier-based boost converter topology, and each switching cycle of the synchronous rectifier is explicitly controlled by the external control logic. The error amplifier is designed to drive the PWM controller. The converter control and monitoring is provided by the control logic integrated in the controller. It has a high accuracy reference and built-in voltage divider to generate a 0.6V reference voltage for controlling the output voltage. The external components help determine the output voltage and the current limit. The compensation circuit and the transconductance amplifier give the converter a fast transient response.
