It can deliver an output voltage continuously adjustable from 0.8V to 5V, with an output current of 3A and an output power of 15W.Working PrincipleThe TPS54315MPWPREP is a synchronous step-down DC-DC switching regulator with reversed buck-boost topology. The main components of the regulator are the high-side N-channel MOSFET and the low-side synchronous P-channel MOSFET. The two MOSFETS are connected in a parallel configuration and driven by a same gate signal.When the regulator is enabled and the switch is turned on, the current passes through the primary winding of the inductor and produces a magnetic field in the core. This magnetic field is stored in the core, which in turn provides a voltage drop across the inductor and forces the current to flow through the primary winding. At the same time, the magnetic field starts to collapse and the stored energy is transferred to the secondary windings of the transformer. The resulting current then flows through the two MOSFETs in the secondary side of the converter. In order to maintain a constant output voltage, the output voltage feedback is compared with the reference voltage error amplifier and the duty cycle of the high-side MOSFET is adjusted accordingly.
