Introduction
The TPS5431EVM-173 is a synchronous buck evaluation module (EVM) designed for adjustable voltage source (AVS) applications. Working Principle
The TPS5431EVM-173 is a non-isolated synchronous buck regulator suitable to be used as adjustable voltage source (AVS) for off-line SMPS designs. Its output voltage is programmable from 0.7V up to 5.5V with maximum output current of 2 Amps. The TPS5431 IC is the heart of this EVM and it features the ability to adjust the output voltage by using a programmable DAC register. The device features a control logic to synchronize the input switch mode with output pulse waveform. The primary switch node (VSW) is referenced to the OUT node, and is controlled by PWM signal coming from the TPS5431 device. The pulse width modulation signal is supplied by the resistor divider voltage reference connected to THRT and HRT pins. The resistor value and duty cycle can be adjusted to make the output voltage higher or lower as desired.

The output of the inductor is fed to the output capacitors, which will store the charge and provide the output voltage.

The resistors limit the inrush current and protect the board from any potential damage against higher voltages.
