TPS54327DDA is a high-performance synchronous buck regulator designed by Texas Instruments. It has a wide input voltage range (up to 22V) and fine output voltage accuracy (±1.5%) .TPS54327DDA, integrated 4A and 5A internal power switches have been optimized for high efficiency and fast transient response. It also integrates a robust circuit protection and short-circuit protection functions for the output. The device also supports PowerMESH topology as well as on/off control logic activation.

The application field of TPS54327DDA includes low voltage voltage regulator, FPGA power supply, DSP power supply, general purpose applications and Automotive application systems with car alternator input. The device can also provide high efficiency, fast transient response performance and a wide input voltage range that are particularly beneficial for automotive alternator input applications.

The TPS54327DDA working principle is based on the synchronous buck-topology power converter. The circuit is composed of two switches (for instance MOSFETs), an input capacitor, a filter capacitor, an inductor and a diode as shown in the figure below. The two switches control the input current to a desired value and the inductor filters the current. The key characteristics of buck converters are determined by the input and output voltages, the inductor and the switching frequency. At the same time, the current in the output capacitor is kept relatively constant by the regulating loop feedback.

When the switch is closed and the voltage is lower than that of the output, the inductor stores energy through the current flowing through it. When the switch is opened, the energy stored in the inductor is transferred to the output capacitor. The output voltage is therefore determined by the ratio of the switching time to the total time as well as the input voltage. At the same time, the current in the diode when the switch is opened is reduced by the current flowing into the inductor. This leads to much higher efficiency compared to linear voltage regulators.
