Introduction

The TPS5432EVM-116 evaluation module is designed to help evaluate the performance of the TPS5432 high performance synchronous step-down switch-mode power supply (SMPS) with integrated high-side and low-side MOSFETs. It is a DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS platform. The TPS5432EVM-116 module is optimal for applications that require high current and power density with fast transient response and high efficiency.

The TPS5432EVM-116 module is suitable for point-of-load (POL) applications where a wide input voltage range is required, such as the microprocessor core voltage supplies, field-programmable gate array (FPGA) supplies, and 1.8V and lower logic supplies. It is also suitable for applications where large capacitive-input loads are present, such as 12V gate-drive supplies. Working Principle

The TPS5432EVM-116 module is capable of generating a low ripple and low noise output voltage from a wide input DC voltage range. This is achieved by using the TPS5432 PWM controller, which regulates an external high-side and low-side MOSFET switch.

The output voltage is proportional to the input voltage via the Feedback regulated error amplifier (FEA). The FEA ratio can be set to the desired output voltage value through the output voltage set resistor (R6). With an input voltage of 12V, the output voltage can range from 0.8V to 12V.

The TPS5432EVM-116 module achieves higher efficiency by using low-RDSON MOSFETs for the high-side and low-side synchronous switch, which reduce switching losses.

The current limit, soft-start, and over-temperature protection features of the TPS5432 ensure safe operations within a wide range of input and output voltages.

The TPS5432EVM-116 module is capable of handling high output current up to 6A. The module can sustain a continuous power output of up to 72W.
