TPS54332EVM-416 is an evaluation module designed to evaluate a wide range of switching applications such as high-efficiency synchronous-stepping buck regulators. This evaluation module is suitable for evaluation of the TPS54332, TPS54335, TPS54336 synchronous-stepping buck regulators. This evaluation board has been designed to maximize user convenience and minimize evaluation time. It is essentially a two-layer board and absolutely ideal for prototyping and testing.
The main application field of the TPS54332EVM-416 evaluation module is nearly any kind of low voltage DC/DC SMPS (Switched-Mode Power Supply) applications. Typical application fields include enterprise servers, desktop PCs, notebooks, tablets, and embedded applications such as internet of things and industrial autonomous systems. TPS54332EVM-416 evaluation module allows designers to optimize their design for better efficiency, smaller size and improved thermal performance.
The TPS54332EVM-416 evaluation module is equipped with the TPS54332, a high-efficiency synchronous switching regulator. It is a non-isolated three stage topology, a buck regulator with active PWM control and synchronous rectification. The main components of the evaluation board are two TPS54332 integrated circuits and two CSPFs thermal FETs.
The TPS54332 is an internally compensated 100kHz fixed frequency voltage mode switching regulator. It is programmed using internal MOSFET gates and is fitted with internal Schottky diode. It is also fitted with an enable function and soft start capability. The output voltage is adjustable over a wide range from 0.375V up to 5.5V, features a low dropout voltage and is protected against over current, over voltage, short circuit and thermal shut down.
The CSPFs thermal FETs are responsible for providing electromagnetic interference immunity and thermal control of the synchronous rectification process. The thermal FETs ensure that the desired temperature and related power dissipation are maintained during the rectification process.The FETs turn off during certain conditions such as over current or a thermal shutdown.
The operating principle of TPS54332EVM-416 evaluation module is quite simple. Two CSPFs thermal FETs are used, one at the front and one at the back of the synchronous rectifier, to control the switching on and off of the synchronous rectifier. The CSPFs control the on and off times, voltage and current ratings of the synchronous rectifier. The voltage feedback of the synchronous rectifier too is used to monitor the PWM effect. The PWM effect is attributed to the current-sense feature of the CSPFs.
The two TPS54332s are connected independently, one powering the other. The TPS54332EVM-416 board allows the designer to evaluate the complete design prior to release. This board supports the evaluation, optimization and design of low voltage DC/DC SMPS applications.The TPS54332EVM-416 board is specially designed to provide a platform for testing specifications, as well as conducting input voltage versus output voltage simulations, input versus output power analyses and output voltage versus temperature profiles.
