TPS54622EVM-012 is an Evaluation Board of DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS, which provides a platform to develop, evaluate, and demonstrate TI’s newest Atrous oscillator family of synchronous stepping Buck regulators. This board is capable of delivering up to 8A of output current at 12V output. It has an input range of from 3V to 18V.
TPS54622EVM-012 application field is broad as it can be used in many power applications, such as automotive, portable devices, hard disk drives, as well as non-isolated voltage conversion applications in computers, servers and telecom equipment. This board has a large number of unique features that make it easy to use and develop with:
- High Efficiency - The board has a high efficiency and low quiescent current, with a maximum efficiency of 96%.
- Intelligent Power Management - This board has an intelligent power management feature, which allows for dynamic adjustment of the output power level.

- Protection from Overvoltage - The board has over-voltage protection enabled, meaning it will shut down in the event of an overvoltage.
The TPS54622EVM-012 application evaluation board’s working principle is that it’s input voltage is converted into a regulated output voltage using Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) technique and a buck converter. The board has a wide input range of from 3V to 18V, and a low-side MOSFET for switching. The board also contains an Atrous oscillator family of synchronous stepping buck regulator IC that provides great response time and efficiency.
The board has two channels for regulating the output voltage and two potentiometers (R1 and R2) to set the current sharing ratio. One of the channels is the main channel and the other is the current sharing channel. The master channel can provide up to 8A of current while the current sharing channel can provide 4A max. The main channel current is controlled by measuring the voltage drop across the sense resistor (Rsense) and comparing it with the reference voltage set using an adjustable potentiometer.
In order to monitor the output voltage and device protection, There are two LEDs (open circuit and short circuit) that indicate over- and under-voltage as well as over-temperature (OT) protection. The board also contains few enable pins to enable/disable the device during power sequencing. In addition, the EVM also has a debug port that allows to monitor real-time data and communications with an external microcontroller.
The board is designed to be used with TI\'s Code Composer Studio (CCS) development environment, which provides an easy to use graphical interface for device configuration. Once configured, the board can be used for a variety of applications such as AC/DC converters, automotive power systems, solar micro-inverter, etc.
