The TPS546C23EVM1-746 is one of a series of evaluation modules (EVMs) from Texas Instruments for use in the development of power management solutions. The TPS546C23 is a fully integrated, current mode, low-noise buck/boost converter. The control loop architecture implements a transconductance current mode architecture which provides excellent line and load transient response characteristics.
The TPS546C23 uses an advanced compensation architecture to ensure wide-band operation and stability. The architecture of the TPS546C23 includes an internal compensation network consisting of a transconductance loop filter and a single pole compensation network. The user can adjust the response time of the loop filter using a single resistor connected between the CCOMP pin and ground. The use of an internal compensation network allows the user to reduce external component count and system cost.
The gate-driver circuitry is designed to allow for low-frequency operation but with the ability to switch at frequencies up to 1.2MHz. The built-in asymmetric drive feature provides dead-time for shoot-through protection and delivers an excellent set of waveforms during operation. The device also includes a fault detect output pin which communicates an over-current or over-temperature condition by generating a high-impedance logic output.
The TPS546C23 is a versatile buck/boost converter which makes it an ideal solution for powering DC/DC and AC/DC SMPS applications.
