Working Principle

The TPS55330RTET operates from an input voltage range of 4.5V to 16V. The main control loop regulates the output voltage set by an external resistor to within a tolerance of ±1.5% over line, load, and temperature variations. The device is monolithic integrating four N-channel MOSFETs for synchronous rectification, which results in 84% efficiency for up to 1A output.

The device contains a voltage error amplifier and a modulator that pulse width modulates the gate turn-on signals for the power switches. To reduce the input current ripple and minimize input voltage ripple, the device employs external low ESR ceramic capacitors. A power-on reset circuit provides a clean power-up sequence.

The device includes an undervoltage lockout (UVLO) circuit and a low power shutdown circuit. The device also includes a thermal protection circuit to protect the device from overheating.
