1. Describe

The TPS60241DGKR device is a family of switched capacitor voltage converters ideal for voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) and phase locked loop (PLL) applications requiring low noise and tight tolerances. Its dual-capacitor design uses four ceramic capacitors to provide ultra-low output ripple and high efficiency while eliminating the need for inefficient linear regulators. The TPS60241DGKR device operates down to 1.8V and supports 3.3V, 2.7V, 3V output from two nickel-based or alkaline batteries, while the TPS60241DGKR can operate from a 2.7V to 5.5V input voltage to provide a 5V output. These devices are also suitable for low EMI DC-DC boost conversion without the need for an inductor. The high switching frequency (160 kHz typical) facilitates the use of small surface mount capacitors, saving board space. The shutdown mode of the converter saves battery power. These devices feature thermal protection and current limiting for reliable operation even under persistent fault conditions. The TPS60241DGKR device has a built-in thermal shutdown feature that shuts down the power stage when the junction temperature exceeds 160°C typical.
