TPS61020EVM-025 is a versatile dc-dc converter evaluation board that operates either in buck or boost mode, as well as buck-boost mode. It is intended primarily for low power applications (down to 1 mA) that require efficient, small-size dc-dc converters with wide input voltage ranges. The TPS61020EVM-025 evaluation board is designed to support variously sized output voltages ranging from ≤0.8 V to 5.2 V. It is an ideal tool for evaluating the TPS6102x family of dc-dc converters.

The TPS61020EVM-025 evaluation board provides a fully adjustable, both buck and boost output. It is based on the TPS61020 device, which is a highly integrated single-inductor buck/boost dc-dc converter. It integrates a 400 mA/700 mA/900 mA internal power MOSFET and the capability to switch from 1.8 V up to 5.5 V input voltage. The board provides as a standard package a type-C USB charger port with an adjustable output voltage that can be used to provide the required input voltage value for the evaluation of the device.

The TPS61020EVM-025 evaluation board reduces the design effort by incorporating a complete dc-dc power solution to test the many features of the TPS61020 device. The board design, which consists of the circuit around the device, utilizes ceramic capacitors and low ESR capacitors for the input and output stages. The input stage is configured with a 37.4 mOhm ESR capacitor to suppress high-frequency ripple, whereas the output stage is configured with 4.7 uF ceramic output capacitor and 2.2 uF ceramic output capacitor connected in parallel to provide the appropriate output for the voltage set. The device under evaluation can be selected and programmed for various output voltage levels.

The TPS61020EVM-025 evaluation board works on the principle of regulating and controlling the output current. The device features two control loops, a current-mode control and a voltage-mode control. The current-mode control loop allows the device to actively regulate an output voltage according to a programmed current setpoint. The voltage-mode control loop provides the device with protection against an overvoltage condition. In addition, the evaluation board provides two standby modes, namely, no-load and full-load, to save power and optimize efficiency when the power is not required.
