TPS61193Q1EVM is a high-efficiency, top-side driver evaluation module (EVM) designed to evaluate and demonstrate the performance of TI’s TPS61193Q1 LED driver in a standard light fixture (e.g. incandescent, halogen, fluorescent, etc.). This evaluation module is ideal for applications with up to 10 LEDs where a long intended lifetimes, improved energy efficiency, and high quality light output are desired.

The TPS61193Q1EVM is a non-isolated, top-side, constant current driver for sign and channel letters up to 10 strings of LEDs. The SENSE output waveforms provide a dimming ratio from (100:1 in direct PWM dimming and 10:1 in 1-2 kHz trailing edge dimming). The top-side driver configuration allows for better light mixing from a Letter face that consists of LEDs located both on the letter face, as well as edges of the letter.

The TPS61193Q1EVM provides a constant current driver that operates from a DC voltage input of 8 to 35V and can drive up to 10 strings of LEDs in series. The open loop control of the driver is digitally adjustable and provides a wide range of current regulation accuracy of +/- 3% over temperature with no additional external components. The module also features a fast circuit protection of short circuits, overvoltage, as well as undervoltage.

The TMUX13701 Multiplexer provides a LED string current sense through which the LED current is monitored. An external RC filtering network provides further current measurement accuracy. The TMUX13701 multiplexer is connected to the TPS61193Q1 IC in order to select the LED string to be monitored. The multiplexer also monitors the temperature of the TPS61193Q1 IC through an NTC thermistor.

The TPS61193Q1EVM also provides a serial port for communication interface through which the brightness of the LED strings can be adjusted into four levels (high、medium、low、off). This can be done through the TPS61193 software GUI or the DALI-2 protocol. The DALI-2 protocol is an industrial standard allowing dynamic control of lighting products over a twisted-pair network using standard commands and a bus-like communication based on 2-wire technology.

The TPS61193Q1EVM contains a user-programmable MCU providing programmable features such as current threshold limit setting, dimming cascade, dimming speed setting, anti-flicker etc. The user-programmable MCU can provide control logic for operating the LED sign application.

The TPS61193Q1EVM also contains an integrated power output stage which provides a regulated current range from 15mA to 375mA up to 10 strings of LEDs. The integrated power output stage provides a wide range of constant current output to accommodate different application with various LED currents.

The TPS61193Q1EVM is ideal for applications with up to 10 strings of moderately bright LEDs, where long expected lifetime, better energy efficiency and improved light output quality are desired. Applications such as lighting fixtures, automotive lighting, driver protective systems, and backlighting are just some of the many applications well suited for this evaluation module.
