TPS62091RGTR Integrated Circuits (ICs)

The TPS62091RGTR is a synchronous step-down DC-DC converter with current-mode pulse-width modulation (PWM) in a low profile package. This device is ideal for space-limited, low power applications such as portable devices where the power profile, transient response and efficiency are optimized. This device has the advantage of allowing the input voltage range to be scalably extended to very low voltage operation in the 100 mV to 1V range. Typical efficiency is greater than 95% from 1V to 5V input voltage, with an efficient voltage conversion ratio up to 90%.

The TPS62091RGTR is suitable for applications such as low operating power portable communications devices, wearable devices, LED lighting, hand-held medical equipment, industrial monitoring, and automotive systems.

The TPS62091RGTR features a current-mode PWM boost-buck architecture that enables the device to operate up to 3 A output current with up to the 95% efficiency. It features the external voltage control pin with a range of 0.5 to 5 V. The device is able to guarantee the user-defined undervoltage lockout (UVLO), overvoltage protection (OVLO), as well as over-temperature protection (OTP) thresholds.

The TPS62091RGTR has an enable pin which is used to turn off the device in low power or standby mode. This enable pin can be controlled by ON/OFF signal from control system, either microcontroller or GPIO, or even by a PWM signal from the processor to force a constant load current or dim the LED at any load current.

This device contains a short-circuit protection circuit to protect itself against shorts which might cause a large amount of current flow if the output is connected to ground or supply. This protection circuit will shut down the device in a few microseconds.

This device is available in a low profile 8 pin PowerPAD package that is 50% smaller than similarly sized SOT23-5 packages. This small package makes it easier to design into space-constrained designs.
