The TPS62113EVM-465 is a complete evaluation module (EVM) designed to evaluate the performance of the TPS62113 Synchronous Buck Converter. It is part of the family of Evaluation Boards – DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS.

The TPS62113EVM-465 is designed to take Line voltage at AC range from 85VAC to 260VAC, Single Stage (Universal) at 85VAC 60Hz – 138VAC 50Hz or 85VAC 400Hz – 260VAC 400Hz input. The evaluation board DC output is set at 5V/1A, when used along with a heatsink, the maximum output power is 6W.

The Synchronous Buck Converter featured on the TPS62113EVM-465 is a step down DC/DC non-isolated converter. It is designed to convert fixed or floating input voltage to a nominally lower output voltage with low noise. It is capable of operating with an input voltage ranging from 4V to 24V, and delivers an output voltage range of 0.7V to 18V with up to 6A of load current.

The converter employs Constant Frequency Control (CFC) Mode, which is part of the TPS6211x step-down regulator integrated circuit (IC) series from Texas Instruments. It provides excellent line and load regulation. The design implements a synchronous, current-mode control scheme, which provides fast transient response and cycle-by-cycle current limiting over-current protection. It uses a low-side MOSFET for the synchronous rectification, resulting in low losses and relatively high efficiency.

The main purpose of the TPS62113EVM-465 is to demonstrate the operation of the TPS6211x IC. Performance parameters such as input/output voltage, output current, output power, efficiency, regulation, Ripple/Noise, and over-current protection are indicated on the EVM. The EMI performance of the TPS6211x IC can also be evaluated on the EVM.

The EVM uses an external sense resistor to regulate the output voltage and current. The external feedback resistors, RVFB and RFB, are used to set the output voltage in the Voltage regulator mode and Shunt regulator mode respectively. The over-current protection is implemented with the CFBL1/CFBL2 resistors connected in series with the output signal available in the TEST pin.

The TPS62113EVM-465 is powered by a Universal AC line input, which allows compatibility with most countries. The windows-based GUI is set up to allow precise control of the output voltage. An isolated USB port is provided for communication with the TPS62113EVM-465. The design of the EVM has a wide temperature range, making it optimized for use in temperature-controlled and hot/cold environments.

Apart from its primary function of testing & evaluating the performance of the TPS62113 IC, the TPS62113EVM-465 can be used to powerdc/dc applications such as 12V in, 5V/1A out powering a microcontroller system. It can also be used to develop new applications depending on its flexibility.
