TPS62621YFFT Application Field and Working Principle

The TPS62621YFFT is a highly integrated synchronous step-down DC-DC converter designed to provide an efficient and fully featured power supply solution for space-constrained and advanced portable applications. The device is capable of supplying up to 2A output current to one or two loads with an operating voltage range of 2.5 V to 5.5 V. The built-in low-side MOSFET allows for a wide input voltage range up to 7 V, making it suitable for various mobile electronic applications powered from a single-cell Li-Ion battery.

Generally, this type of converter operates at high-frequency by using one or several switches and an inductor to transfer energy from the input supply to the output. This type of regulator is usually used when the input is a higher voltage than the output.

TPS62621YFFT Working Principle

The TPS62621YFFT DC-DC Converter is a type of step-down or “buck” converter. It is based on a synchronous architecture with both low-side and high-side MOSFETs connecting the input voltage and the output voltage. The input voltage is applied to the circuit and flows through a low-side MOSFET and an inductor. When the MOSFET is turned on, current is induced into the inductor. This energy is transferred to the output during the periods of the MOSFET being off.

The device features a constant frequency, current mode control which allows for excellent response to load transients. The output power is controlled by an external resistor divider from which the output voltage is sensed. The voltage can also be programmed digitally, using an external resistor divider, allowing for precise and adjustable output voltage settings.
